This week is my first anniversary being elected as Trustee for the Waterloo Region District School Board. While I bring 29 years as an Educator with the WRDSB, I now have an opportunity to learn about and support the system that upholds and supports all the valuable work going on in our classrooms each and every day.

During my years as a teacher, students very often asked me, “When will I need to use this in life?” And my answer was something like this,

I do not have a crystal ball. I do not know what your future holds, but I want to make sure you have every opportunity available for you in life. Your brain and thinking skills need to be as well developed as possible, so your horizon can be as wide and hopeful as possible.

A well-funded and well supported public education system is vital to our health as a community – locally and globally.

Know this.

Every moment of every day, there are a multitude of beautiful things happening in our schools. It is the generous kindness, professionalism and passion of our Teachers, Education Workers and Admin Staff that make our schools special. Our schools are staffed with people clearly dedicated to going the extra distance to meet the needs of our students.

It is my honour to shine a light on them each and everyday.
