Dan Gilbert, Owner and Lead Stylist at FAD Hair & Body Studio
As much as I would like to convince you I am a natural born beauty (I say as I puff my hair), a lot of credit must go to my hair stylist Dan Gilbert, the owner and head stylist at FAD Hair & Body. I have been getting my curls done by Dan for over 20 years. I value his eye and expertise immensely. He is always keeping up-to-date with the latest trends and looks.
When I sit down in Dan’s chair, I let him do what he thinks is best. It is such a relief to know I can trust him to work his magic on my curls. And quite honestly, he knows more about how grey I am than I do! So, I am very happy to tell you all about him and his business.
Last year he moved his studio from the west side of Galt to the east. The moment I walked into his new space, I felt the same, consistent, natural vibe that he had in his other place. Warm old wood floors, exposed natural brick, lots of plants and beautiful revived older furniture mixed with hip, trendy pieces.
When I went for my latest hair appointment, Dan shared with me his vision and the products that guide it. We talk about “farm to table” in the food world and “farm to glass” in the craft beer & distillery world. In the hair world, world, Davines (pronounced dah-vin-ess) believes in “farm to hair.” Each hair product container states the name of the farmer who grew their natural extracts. They then save the seeds for the next crop and for experimenting in the large scientific garden at their headquarters in Italy.
It is intriguing that in a world of chemicals, one hair company is working hard to move their products to naturally sourced & sustainable ingredients. They also recycle and reuse their own plastic containers.
Dan showed me the magazine Davines produces to help hair studios also pursue sustainable and healthier decor. Their suggestions include the use of plants, vintage, thrift and crafting.
These large macramé wall hangings at FAD make my heart happy.
All three of us in my family go to FAD for our hair. Dan takes care of my partner Steve and me and our child Daren, who is in university in Nova Scotia, always makes a special trip to FAD every time they are home. Lexi did a beautiful job on Daren’s hair in December this year.
Thank you Dan for being such a great friend and such a creative and professional hair stylist. I am so grateful for you.
